Ashburn Village hosted a community blood drive in support of a local cancer survivor on Saturday, July 19, at the Mills Recreation Center, with donations facilitated by the Inova Blood Donor Services.
This was the 2nd annual community blood drive held in honor of the survivor, who is now recovering beautifully from leukemia after a successful bone marrow transplant this past March. Last year’s event collected nearly 70 units of blood—a milestone the community was proud of—until this year’s drive exceeded expectations. In just six hours, 84 donors contributed 105 units of blood, including 21 double red cell donations, with an additional seven individuals screened but unable to donate.
The outpouring of support highlighted the community’s commitment to saving lives. Hosting a blood drive is a meaningful way for neighborhoods to unite for a cause, and Ashburn Village residents showed how much can be accomplished when they come together.
