Talking about why blood donations are needed and how blood is used in our community to save lives is a critical way to help Inova Blood Donor Services achieve our mission of maintaining a safe and adequate blood supply for the communities we serve.  

We believe that as more people talk about donating blood and blood transfusions, more people will be inspired to give blood, volunteer or donate financially to help fulfill our mission.

When asked why they have not donated, many people say it is because they were never asked to donate.  Let’s make that reason an excuse of the past, shall we?

Here are a few ways you can help raise awareness of the importance of blood donations:

  • Post on social media when you donate, along with your reason for donating that day and tag us! You might be surprised to see which of your friends likes or comments on your post. (Facebook: @InovaBlood Donor, Instagram: @InovaBlood, Twitter: @InovaBlood)
  • Write a review about the service you experienced while donating with us. We have reviews on Yelp, Google and Facebook.
  • Bring a friend or family member with you when you donate. If they donate, that means you help save twice as many lives. If they do not donate, they will keep you company and learn about blood donation during their time spent with you!
  • Organize a blood drive in your community, at your library, workplace, religious organization, kid’s school, gym or another place convenient to your group
  • Talk about the importance of donating blood with your family and friends and your reason for giving the gift of life!
  • Follow us on social media! You will learn about upcoming events and read about what is going on with Inova Blood Donor Services. We post urgent alerts when we have specific needs for blood collections. You can also help by sharing these posts with your social network to spread the word.   • Publicly pledge to donate blood, double red cells, platelets, and plasma a certain number of times per year, continue to share your progress with us on social media as you complete your goal!
  • If you have been touched by blood donation, share your story! Your experience will inspire others to give. If you have a story to share, please share it with us today.
